The Notre Dame football team shoots for a 10-0 start to the 2012 season when they battle Boston College Saturday night at 8pm in Chestnut Hill.
The Irish are looking avoid the Boston College jinx. Each of the last two times Notre Dame was undefeated in November, it was BC that handed the Irish a loss.
It happened in 1993 and prevented Notre Dame from playing for the national championship game. It also happened in 2002 when a 4-4 Eagles team came to Notre Dame Stadium and upset the 8-0 Irish.
Brian Kelly said two weeks ago, he wasn't going to bring up history to his team. Thursday, he said he definitely wasn't bringing up this bit of history to his guys either.
Most of the Irish players have no clue about the history of those two games.
"I don't know---it happened in 02 and 93," says captain Manti Te'o. "Doesn't really matter to me. What matters to me is what happens in 2012."
"I don't care at all about that to be honest," says fellow linebacker Dan Fox. "It's a whole different team."
Of course, there is at least one guy on the team that remembers 2002 fairly well. That's Penn high grad Braxston Cave.
"I remember coming out in the green jerseys and walking away with a loss," Cave explained. "I remember that game and watching it. I don't bring it up, it doesn't matter--that's in the past. This is a different team and we're just going out there to get the win."
BC is just 2-7 this season.
