Tomorrow marks the first home game for Notre Dame football, and excitement is ringing all around South Bend.
But support for the Irish goes further than just here locally. Out-of-towners from all over the country travel to South Bend to see the games. And those travels bring big bucks for the local economy.
Forbes Magazine says just one home game weekend brings $10 million to the city. So, with 6 games, that's $60 million for South Bend.
Executive director of Visit South Bend/Mishawaka says, "It's absolutely, it's a critical part of the tourism industry throughout the year and again, it's the season is something that we anticipate all year long. The hotel rights are a little bit higher and what not, but the restaurants count on the business for the visitor coming in to boost their revenue, just across the board, so do the bars, hotels, you name it."
And this year marsk 125 years of football for the Irish, so the celebration and excitement is sure to be big all season long.
