Graduates of the 124th Michigan State Police Trooper Recruit School graduated on Friday, and will now join the effort to make communities and neighborhoods safer throughout the state.

Director of the Michigan State Police (MSP), Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue announced 90 individuals have become new MSP troopers.
During the ceremony, keynote speaker Gov. Rick Snyder thanked the recruits for their commitment and dedication to serving the state.

“These new troopers should all be proud of their accomplishments in proving they have what it takes to enter this elite force,” said Snyder.

As part of the governor’s public safety plan, additional funding was allotted toward the hiring of 180 troopers, which includes the 2013 graduating class, and the 78 troopers who graduated in Oct. 2012. Snyder says the additional troopers will bolster law enforcement efforts in the state’s most violent cities of Flint, Detroit, Pontiac and Saginaw.

Etue addressed the grads saying, “You have a mission to serve and protect because policing is a duty of the highest honor—with the highest responsibilities, the highest visibility and some of the greatest challenges. The department demands and the public deserves nothing less than your best every day.”

Some 114 individuals started the 22-week long recruiting school on Oct. 28, 2012. During the training, recruits learned about firearms, water safety, defensive tactics, report writing and crime scene processing among other skills. Out of those 114 initial recruits, Friday’s ceremony saw 90 graduate.

The 125th Trooper Recruit School will begin May 12, 2013, interested candidates should visit for more information.
