A 15-year-old Niles girl is dead, after police say she stole a truck, then crashed into a tree at a high speed while trying to get away from them. Jazmyne Rodriquez died in the crash around 8:30 Sunday morning.
Police say the truck was stolen from the 1800 block of Sycamore Street. About 15 minutes later the car was spotted and a Niles City Police Officer tried to pull Rodriguez over, but she didn't stop.
Police say the officer followed her to Yankee Street where a Michigan State Trooper was preparing to use stop sticks up the road. The truck then veered across the road and hit a tree on the other side.
Police say the truck was going about 85 miles per hour at the time.
