New Buffalo's Rohl finishes 7th in discus at Olympic Trials

Updated: Mon 12:12 AM, Jun 25, 2012

New Buffalo native Beth Rohl finished 7th in the discus at the U.S. Olympic Trials Sunday in Eugene, Oregon. Rohl comes up short in her quest to make Team USA as only the top three finishers go to the Olympic Games.

But she was very pleased with how she did. Rohl set a personal best with a throw of 57.82 meters on Sunday. That in fact was good enough to set a new Big Ten record.

"I just went out there and I told myself to go after and coach and I tuned up a few things and it worked out well," Rohl explained.

Just 21, Rohl is set to enter her senior year at Michigan State. She should get another crack at making Team USA in four years.

"This was a great experience. I was just happy to [make the finals.] I wouldn't have done anything differently. It turned out great. I wouldn't want to change it."
