Elkhart, Ind. A new group of officers in the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department took their oath of office Monday.
With the presence of Judge Terry Shewmaker, seven new patrol and corrections officers accepted the oath. They've gone through a rigorous selection process and training to get to this point.
According to Sheriff Brad Rogers, the ceremony is held inside the courtroom to add pomp and circumstance to the occasion and remind them of their commitment to law enforcement.
“It's just a good event plus it communicates to the officers this is important,” says Sheriff Brad Rogers, from the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department. “Rather an acknowledgement that they're going to up the US constitution and the Indiana constitution.”
Oaths of office are one of the few times cameras and photography is allow inside the courthouse.
