Mishawaka, Ind. Saturday, Oct. 19 was Bob Knight’s 60th birthday – and with the birth of his new grandson – he shared the event with his five-year-old, two-year-old and one-day-old grandsons all born on the same day.
The newest addition to the family of 10 grandchildren was the third grandson born on their grandfather’s birthday. When mom Chrissie Doty went into labor and delivered at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, no one was surprised.
“And I just had a feeling he was going to wait and come on the 19th,” said Doty, who’s older son was also born on the same day. “I just knew it.”
And grandpa said it was the best present he could have received.
“It was a wonderful feeling,” said Knight. “It was a surprise with the first one five years ago when there was a chance of him being born on my birthday… and then it was also a treasure when [the next one] was born three years later. And then this one topped it off being born on the 19th. So three grandson's being born on my birthday -- I don't know how the odds are but it came true.”
Grandmother Patty Knight said new baby Calvin will have a special one-year birthday party next year, but after that he will have to learn to share.
“We should just have one big party, definitely,” Doty said. “From now on we should throw one big shindig.”
The delivery went smoothly and mom and baby are doing well.
