A Monday New York Times article emphasizes what a local cancer expert has been saying for years that women dealing with gynecological cancers should be treated by gynecologic oncologists.
In fact, women fighting cancer of the female organs greatly increase their chances of survival when treated by a board certified gynecologic oncologist.
Dr. Michael Method of Michiana Hematology Oncology is one of two such specialists in the area.
He said an interview last year that it is extremely important that women see oncologists who specialize in the reproductive organs and the New York Times article backs that up.
There are about 1,000 such specialists in the country and we have two right here in Michiana, Dr. Method and his partner, Dr. Michael Rodriquez.
The Times article stresses the importance of centers like Michiana Hematology Oncology and that people are aware that seeking out a specialist could mean the difference between life and death.
