This is the week the search for a new South Bend Police Chief is expected to be whittled down to three finalists. The last permanent Chief was Darryl Boykins who was fired in April.
Some on the Common Council believe that all current members of the South Bend Police Department have been eliminated as candidates, and that all three finalists will come from outside the city limits.
If we are putting all these funds into training our police officers in the City of South Bend to move into higher leadership and none of them are being chosen or are in the final round then we have to say again are we investing our dollars in the right place,” says Councilman Oliver Davis (D) 6th District. “We are sending our police officers to the wrong academies to the wrong training centers.”
The Mayor's Office expects to reveal the names of the finalists by the end of this week.
