New Mishawaka City Councilwoman voted in Thursday

The Saint Joseph County Republican Party held a caucus Thursday night to choose a replacement for Mishawaka City Councilwoman, Marsha McClure, who is leaving her seat for a position as a County Commissioner.

Seven candidates vied for the votes of eight Republican Precinct Committeemen. The group of electors were deadlocked once the slate of candidates was whittled to three.

After ten ballots, the electors chose Kate Voelker as the new Republican City Councilwoman from Mishawaka’s Fourth District.

Voelker is the Executive Director of Riverbend Cancer Services and is a past President of the Junior League of South Bend.

She'll be sworn in on January 1 at the St. Joseph County Republican Party's Headquarters.
