Several Elkhart County residents called police after seeing two men in a van going to various homes offering free soap.
"They were using the brand Dawn soap to get in people's houses and talk to them," said Tom Blain, who was outside when the men stopped at his neighbor's home.
His neighbor declined the free offer and called 911, but deputies were unable to catch them.
"They weren't going door-to-door. They pulled out of his driveway, went past my house and stopped at another house and then sped off," said Blain.
Blain also contacted Dawn manufacturer Proctor and Gamble to report the suspicious activity.
"She [a representative] said they don't do that with their product and that nobody should open their door to anybody holding a bottle of Dawn dishwashing soap," said Blain.
Police continually ask residents to call 911 to report suspicious activity, such as this free soap offer.
