A Penn Township resident is safe thanks to brave efforts by neighbors.

Penn Township firefighters were dispatched to a home in the 10400 block of Jefferson Road, after neighbors say they pulled the sleeping resident from a burning home.

Brian Bennett says he stepped-out onto his porch with his daughter when he noticed smoke coming from his neighbor's home.

He ran down and tried to get her attention, but the woman was sleeping.

Bennett said he knew he had to act quickly to get her out in time.

Saturday, Crews were on-the-scene boarding-up broken windows and clearing out damage.

And while the future of the house is uncertain, its homeowner is going to be just fine, thanks to this good Samaritan.

“I knew Niki was home, my wife was just like Niki’s home, we have get her out,” said Bennett. “I could see the fire in the kitchen rolling across the ceiling and so, I kept beating on all the doors and windows, hollering and she didn't respond. So I picked up a big patio block and went to her bedroom doors, broke them open and got her attention.”

Two cats did die in the fire.

While the official cause of the blaze is still under investigation, Bennett says he saw most of the flames coming from the kitchen area.
