NIPSCO energy assistance for winter

Money from a lawsuit settlement is being passed back to Indiana Hoosiers to help with energy costs.

Indiana government is taking a large portion of a recent settlement and invested $29 million into an energy assistance program.

Indiana, as well as 48 other states and the federal government received the money from their lawsuit with the nation’s five largest banks over foreclosure abuses and mortgage-servicing practices.

Enrollment for federal heating assistance programs begins today, and N.I.P.S.C.O is encouraging customers to take advantage of the options during this year’s winter heating season.

Last year nearly 36,000 N.I.P.S.C.O customers received federal assistance.
