BENTON HARBOR Benton Harbor's parks conservancy is gaining momentum with some big donations, and several organizations are lined up to adopt parks.

The effort is even gaining the attention of a hometown celebrity. Joique Bell grew up in Benton Harbor and is now a running back for the Detroit Lions. His non-profit, called Elite Sports and Mentoring, has traveling baseball and basketball teams. According to The Herald Palladium, Bell is considering holding tournaments at Union Park.

The conservancy takes over management of Benton Harbor's 13 city parks in January 2014.
