Officials who ran a youth center in a northern Indiana city are trying to decide their next step five months after the building was damaged by fire.

Sections of the building in downtown Elkhart that formerly housed Lifeline Youth for Christ are scheduled to be demolished Monday.

Lifeline executive director Darrell Peterson tells The Elkhart Truth negotiations have begun to build a new center. The old one was severely damaged in a fire last September. Only the gymnasium is believed to be usable.

Since the fire, Lifeline has held activities in various locations and Peterson says the number of children who attend as grown by 25 percent.

A prayer vigil will be held at the gym before Monday's demolition.
