N. Illinois man found dead in fiery crash

A northern Illinois man is dead after his car caught on fire and crashed into the median overnight on I94 in Lincoln Township.

Around 4:45 a.m. Saturday, a Berrien County Sheriff's deputy was westbound on the interstate near mile marker 21 when he saw a 1996 Buick heading the opposite way that appeared to be on fire.

When the deputy turned around and caught up to the car he discovered it had slammed into the median cable barrier and was still burning.

A 35-year-old man from Aurora was found dead inside but it's still unclear if the cause of death was the vehicle fire, the crash or other unknown medical reasons.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
