South Bend, Ind. More than 350 people were guided through the Mystery at the Mansion Tour at the Oliver Mansion in South Bend Friday night.
It was the eighth annual mystery tour for the mansion, it was sold out Friday -- and is sold out for the round of tours next Friday -- for its mystery entitled "Murder and Mayhem."
Visitors are guided through the rooms by docents who tell them about the history of the mansion and lead them through a maze of scenes that tell the story of a murder mystery. When they have finished their journey through 38 rooms, the group is asked to fill out a ballot declaring who they believe to be guilty.
"Then they are on their way and we have a solution sheet they get as they leave the mansion," explained Marketing Director, Marilyn Thompson. "Only then do they find out who really did do it."
The story is different every year, so many groups have made the mystery tour a tradition year-after-year.
"We do have a lot of people who have made this a tradition now they look forward to it they start calling us around August they want to know when is it going to be and we love that," Thompson said. "We love that it's a tradition in the Michiana community at this time of year."
For those who missed out on tickets this time around, there is still time to book a Yule Tide Tour in the Oliver Mansion. The event is held every Friday in December and the museum will start taking reservations in about 2 weeks.
The story was written by local author Roger Chrastil.
