Music store in South Bend closes store, again

An internet-based company, Music Factory Direct, operating out of the previous Wood Wind and Brass Wind facility, is closing down its retail outlet on Technology Drive in South Bend.

Previous Wood Wind and Brass Wind owner, Dennis Bamber, started the factory music outlet in 2009, and decided to try his hand at retail again, in the same space that once housed the hugely popular music destination. Bamber told Newscenter 16 Friday, he did not receive the success in the retail outlet he had hoped for, especially considering Music Factory Direct, does not have the same name-recognition that kept Wood Wind and Brass Wind operating in a retail location.

"The thing that was bringing in the least amount of revenue for as much trouble as it was, was the retail," said Bamber. "So, we made a decision to focus more on our other businesses." He continued, "Amazon grew 40% last year, internet business grew, I think 17%, retail grew 3%. So it shows you that more and more people are going to the internet and that's kind of where we're focusing on," said Bamber.

The company will remain online at Music Factory Direct, but the storefront will close before the end of March. .
