BENTON TOWNSHIP A man who admitted to killing his ex-girlfriend has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Isaiah Casnave pleaded guilty to killing Tenita Broyles in April 2013.

Broyles was the mother of Casnave's one-year-old son. She also had two other children. She had filed a protection order against Casnave before the shooting.

Casnave reportedly raped Broyles at knife point two weeks before the murder. The rape charge was dropped as part of the plea deal, but during the sentencing hearing, the judge called Casnave a rapist. The Herald Palladium reports that at that point, Casnave was dragged from the hearing kicking, screaming and spitting.

Before the outburst, Casnave made an emotional apology to Broyles' family.
