Muffet's Squad rolls to victory in exhibition game without seniors

Notre Dame's women's basketball team looks great for 2014-2015.

That's the team that was on the floor Wednesday night when Notre Dame crushed California (PA) 118-49 in an exhibition game at Purcell Pavilion.

In the post Skylar Diggins era, Muffet's Squad was also without seniors Natalie Achonwa, Kayla McBride and Ariel Braker. McBride and Braker are minor injuries and could have played if it was the regular season.

Achonwa is more serious. She had knee surgery last week to repair her meniscus. She's expected to be out five more weeks, meaning she could miss around five regular season games.

With the seniors out, sophomore Jewell Loyd led the way with 27 points. Freshman Taya Reimer also scored 27 for the Irish, which led 70-20 at halftime.

Markisha Wright had 16 and 10 rebounds, Michaela Mabrey added 15 points and freshman point guard Lindsay Allen scored 13 points and dished out 8 assists.

Notre Dame opens the regular season at home on Saturday November 9 at 1pm against UNC Wilmington.
