Muffet's Squad not satisfied with record setting 24-0 start

The Notre Dame women's basketball team beat Boston College by 21 points Thursday night on the road to improve to 24-0 on the season for the first time in school history.

But there was little celebration from Irish coach Muffet McGraw after the game. She was down right ticked off. McGraw didn't like the way her team played at all, despite winning by more than 20 points on the road against an ACC opponent.

That's the standard and expectation the Irish program has now set after three straight trips to the Final Four. That's why while they appreciate being off to the best start in school history, they aren't satisfied with it.

"I think it's great that we are off to a great start but it doesn't say a thing about the finish yet--that's still unwritten," McGraw said Friday. "I think for us, we're still looking ahead to our goals and not focusing on anything that's happening right now."

That message was relayed Friday at practice.

"We obviously want to go undefeated," Senior Ariel Braker says. "It means something special kind of right now but it won't mean anything until the final prize the final end. We can go 24-0 but if you don't get the trophy at the end, it doesn't matter."

That's the mentality for a senior class that's only ever been to the Final Four but has yet to come away winning it all.

"It's a great feeling but it doesn't mean much without the end that we really want--which is a national championship," Senior Kayla McBride adds about starting 24-0. "We're working hard, trying to take it one game at a time, not looking at the rankings, not looking at the runs--we want the national championship."

Notre Dame is ranked 2nd in the country behind defending national champion and fellow unbeaten UConn. The Irish are back in action Monday night when they host Georgia Tech on Senior Night.
