SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- Dozens of people revved up their engines and hit the road for a good cause.

This morning was former Indiana Governor and South Bend Mayor Joe Kernan's 'Heroes Ride.'

The event kicked off at American Legion Post 357 in South Bend.

And, even Kernan himself got in on the fun by hopping on a bike.

The group rode more than 60 miles to raise money for the Life Treatment Center here in South Bend.

The Life Treatment Center helps to support veterans in their time of need.

Kernan's Heroes can help house a veteran for up to six months.

Once that time is up they help them find permanent housing.

"Our contract with men and women who serve is that we're going to take care of them," said Kernan. "And, the Life Treatment Center has been a real gem. Not just in this community, but really across the State of Indiana."
