Police are investigating a motorcycle accident that happened in Berrien County Tuesday afternoon.
At 2:57 p.m., a Michigan State Police trooper heading eastbound along I-94 clocked a westbound motorcyclist traveling in excess of 135 m.p.h.
The trooper began a pursuit, which caused the biker, James Ryan Meisner, 26, of Kalamazoo to drive faster, in attempt to flee from police.
The pursuit continued down the I-94 exit 39 off-ramp, near Coloma. Seconds later, Meisner collided with the front end of a Coloma Township squad car, along Center St., south of Ryno Rd.
Paramedics took Coloma Township officer Michael Prince, 52, to Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph for observation. While a West Michigan Air Care helicopter was called in to transport Meisner to the Bronson Hospital trauma center in Kalamazoo.
The crash remains under investigation by the Michigan State Police - Niles Post. Assisting in the crash response, investigation and cleanup; North Berrien Fire Rescue, Coloma Ambulance, Berrien County Sheriff's Department and Coloma Township Police.
