South Bend Fire battled massive flames early Monday morning, when a trash fire spread out of control.
The blaze broke out around 4a.m. at the Lincolnwood Motel in the 3300 block of Lincolnway West. It apparently started in a trash bin and quickly spread. Firemen were never able to enter the building to douse flames.
Authorities say only a handful of people were inside at the time, and they were all able to get out safely. The building however is likely a total loss.
Police closed Lincolnway West west of Bendix for several hours as they worked to put out the fire.
