Congratulations to Mishawaka sophomore Anna Rohrer; she is a national champion.
Rohrer won the Foot Locker High School Cross Country National Championship Saturday in San Diego with a 5K time of 17 minutes and 25 seconds.
For Anna, winning the national championship is a dream come true.
“I still feel like I haven’t completely grasped it yet, and probably won’t for another day or two, or maybe when I get back to school,” she said.
Anna has joined the ranks of other national cross country champions, saying “I look up to them, and just to think that people are going to look up to me like that. It’s really, it’s humbling.”
After the dream fulfilling week Anna says it was great to get a chance to meet the athletes and have her family with her. She was greeted at the South Bend Regional Airport by friends and family Sunday afternoon saying, ‘It’s just crazy to think that I’m the fastest in the country.”
Earlier this year, Rohrer set the Indiana state meet record in the 5K at 17 minutes, 13.2 seconds.
Mishawaka will hold a community celebration to honor Rohrer Monday afternoon. The event starts at 2:40 p.m. in the main gym at Mishawaka High School. The public is welcome to attend.
