Mishawaka schools are blaming fiscal cliff confusion for a payroll problem.
The school system withheld too much in taxes based on the IRS rules in effect on the day the payroll was processed.
Congress was late in passing a package to avoid an increase in income tax rates and the Mishawaka school system was not able to adjust quickly enough.
The withholding problem will not be corrected during the next payroll on January 18th.
It will have to be reconciled next year as employees file their individual tax returns for 2013.
