Mishawaka, Ind. Mishawaka Police are searching for a man who they say exposed himself to a 15-year-old girl in an attempted abduction Tuesday afternoon.
The teen was waiting for a public bus at a stop near Lincolnway W and Smith St around 2:30 p.m.
"She was waiting on the bus so she was listening to her music," said Lt. Tim Williams of the Mishawaka Police Department. "She heard something, thought it was a horn - heard something again and took her ear pieces out."
Lt. Williams tells NewsCenter 16 the man pulled down his pants and called for the girl to get into his small gold or tan pick-up truck. The girl ran away and her mother called police.
“This is a highly traveled road and it’s really vital that we appeal to the people in the area who may have seen this car,” Williams said, who described the vehicle as a late 90s model, small, gold or tan pick-up truck. “The key to this investigation is finding that pick-up.”
The suspect is described as a white male around 5'11" and 200 pounds in his mid-thirties or forties. He is also said to have been wearing a dark jacket and a black or blue hat.
“The goal is to try to get help from the neighborhood,” Williams said. “We don’t need this going on in our area and we need the public’s help to find this suspect.”
Neighbors, like business owner Kevin Anthony from across the street, say the timing is most surprising.
"Right during the broad daylight," Anthony said. "That's very bold -- the kind of things that you don't think would happen in a community like this."
With a daughter himself, he is concerned for the victim and neighboring teens.
"It actually bothers me a lot," he said."I mean, talk about offending the rights of a person and making an impact on the girl's life. I feel for her."
