You might see cars run into each other during a race at the South Bend Motor Speedway, but Thursday that was not the case.
Traffic was backed up on State Road 2 during rush hour because of a car accident near the track.
Around four o'clock Thursday afternoon, a light gold Ford Explorer crashed into the back end of a large trailer, right across the street from the Speedway on State Road 2. The Explorer stayed in the middle of the road while police guided traffic around the scene.
Investigators say the driver had small cuts around his face and other minor injuries and bruises. The trailer driver was not hurt, but it was his first accident.
The back end of the metal trailer was bent sideways, and the trailer smashed into the back end of the truck.
"We had a large truck pulling a car transport trailer,” explains Corporal Koski of the St. Joseph County Police. “It was heading westbound in the right hand lane. It was making entrance here to the insurance auction. When he was making the turn, the vehicle behind him was not paying attention and rear ended the back of the trailer."
Police arrived shortly after the incident. No other injuries or damage was reported.
