A man was taken to the hospital after driving his minivan straight into a discount store on the Northwest side of South Bend.
Just after 7 p.m. the minivan crashed into the Dollar Tree located in the 3700 block of Portage Rd. near Cleveland.
Several people who witnessed the wreck from across the street said they saw about five people yelling outside the front of the stores just before the crash occurred. Police tell NewsCenter 16 the driver had a medical problem and was taken away in an ambulance in an unknown condition.
The two people who were inside the building at the time declined to comment, but officials noted this is not the first time a car has smashed into this particular storefront.
Last September, three people were hospitalized after their vehicle crashed through the Dollar Tree’s front window. In that crash, police say the foot of the 88 year-old driver slipped off the break while he was parking.
