Just how much do local governments spend?
In Elkhart County, Middlebury's city government last year spent the most per resident, according to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth.
The total came out to over $5,200 per resident.
Bristol comes in second in per capita spending, followed by Elkhart, Goshen, Nappanee, Millersburg and Wakarusa at $4,200.
The numbers from the department of local government finance, say spending numbers were lower in unincorporated areas of Elkhart County.
But, spending is up one and a half-percent in the county, which ranked 66th of 89 in the Hoosier state.
