Police in Michigan City recovered a BB gun from a student at Michigan City High School on Friday after conducting a preventative search of students entering the school.

According to the Michigan City Police Department, officers were alerted on Thursday that a student allegedly brought a handgun into the school. However, after a series of interviews and searches, no further information was obtained.

As a result, police officers conducted a preventative safety search of students entering the school on Friday, and during this search, they obtained a black BB gun, similar to the type of gun carried by police officers.

According to school officials, the student will be disciplined according to the school’s code.
