A Michigan farmer wants to expand his operations and open a micro-brewery and distillery.
Steve Lecklider of Lehmans Orchard in Niles went before the Berrien County Planning Commission Tuesday afternoon. Lecklider is applying for new licenses that would allow him to expand his current winery.
Some of his neighbors, however, are divided. The area around Lehmans has to be rezoned in order for business to be expanded.
“There are caps on production and it's not to my benefit to overproduce it's to my benefit to have really nice tasting products and something I can offer that I actually produce,” says Steve Lecklider of Lehmans Orchard in Niles.
Lehman will now go back to the Bertrand Township Planning Commission to discuss the rezoning.
