Michigan attorney general warns against gas price gouging

Lansing, Mich. A warning to gas stations -- you're being watched closely.

Michigan's attorney general is warning against price gouging at the pump over the Labor Day weekend.

Bill Schuette says consumers should not be taken advantage of during their last vacation of the summer. If you find evidence that this is happening -- you can contact the attorney general's consumer protection division by calling 1-877-765-8388.

Although there is talk of lower prices this holiday weekend compared to last in some parts of the country, that doesn't appear to be the case here.

The current average price per gallon in Michigan is $3.62/gallon, a few cents above this time last year and 20 cents higher than the national average, according to Gas Buddy.com.

The current average price in the Hoosier state is $3.58, which is about the same as this time last year and 16 cents higher than the national average.

The current national average -- $3.42-- is about 12 cents cheaper than last year.
