The immigration debate is a hot one right now, and Representative Fred Upton from Michigan joined us Wednesday morning to talk about that and other big topics in Congress.

"We need reform. Doing nothing just perpetuates a broken system," he explained. "We see this terrible situation at the border. I talked to some of my colleagues who are down there this week -- we're on break; we're back in session next week. Literally tens of thousands of children, unaccompanied by parents -- we've seen the pictures -- riding trains. Some of these border crossings are having thousands of people come through in just a couple weeks' time, and there's no place for them to go. There're no real family members here. They're just here, and the president, I know, is asking for a lot of money, but we have to send the signal that we need reform. We've got to have a secure border. We've got to deal with this sooner than later."

Rep. Upton also spoke about energy legislation and the new secretary of Veterans Affairs.
