Michigan Civil Rights Initiative to land in Supreme Court

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette is taking Michigan's Civil Rights Initiative to the Supreme Court.

Schuette will file a petition to appeal a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals 6th Circuit Court. That decision overturned legislation to prohibit universities from considering race in college admissions.

The court ruled the measure violated the 14th Amendment of the United States, regarding U.S. citizenship.

Michigan voters approved the civil rights initiative in 2006.

Schuette will file with the Supreme Court within the next three months.
