A Michigan City daycare operator has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless homicide after a child in her care accidentally hanged himself.
The death occurred in early June at Tricia's Playhouse in Michigan City.
LaPorte County Coroner John Sullivan says Amareon Williams died from asphyxiation due to hanging after getting caught in a jump rope left hanging over an outside play fort.
The licensed daycare was on probationary status at the time and undergoing a plan of correction after an April 21 inspection found several violations. The problems included failure to report suspected child abuse or neglect.
Tricia's Playhouse owner Tricia Calvin has a warrant out for her arrest. Bond has been set at $15,000.
