Michigan City, Ind. Michigan City Police are warning about a scam where fraud suspects represent themselves as Microsoft employees. They say it is targeted towards seniors and less savvy computer owners.
The scammers convince people to spend hundreds of dollars, by impersonating help desk engineers from software companies. They say their computers could be infected, and push that fixing their computer is critical.
They then ask for a credit card payment to continue the repair, which usually involves downloading fake security software.
Police say Microsoft will never call you, so if you suspect something suspicious, call the Michigan City Police.
