NILES, Mich. - A superintendent from a Michiana school has stepped down from his role this week.

Richard Weigel was the superintendent of Niles Community Schools.

An agreement of his separation was released Friday.

It cites "irreconcilable and fundamental differences" between former educator and district.

In a statement, Niles School Board said that recently it, "became apparent that some members of the administration, the board of education and Doctor Weigel have differing views on the leadership and vision for the future."

They thanked Weigel for his four years of service.

Until June 30, Weigel will serve as a consultant to the school district.

Kevin Ivers will act as interim superintendent until a permanent super is chosen.

At the end of June, Weigel will sever all ties with the district and receive $115,000 severance payment.

The separation agreement states his resignation is voluntary.
Weigel was reportedly out sick for extended periods of time prior to the announcement.
