Michiana rock and stone enthusiasts hold annual event

Mishawaka, Ind. The Michiana Gem and Mineral Society held its 50th anniversary show Saturday afternoon.

Hundreds of people made their way to the St. Joe County Fairgrounds to see a wide variety of unique rocks and stones.

Folks of all ages stopped by to learn about the different types of geological artifacts.

Vendors from here in Michiana and all across the region were on hand to show off some of Earth's beautiful creations.

"You can learn all kinds of things and be at all kinds of places,” explained Raquel Russell of Russell’s Trees and Treasures. “And if you just look at the rocks just the fact the natural beauty of some of the stones that you can see or that they've collected or that they've look at a natural piece and say, ‘oh this is really ugly’ and then you clean it up a little bit. It can turn into something that's really pretty and it’s not going to cost you millions of dollars."
