Michiana residents come together to help 9-month-old girl fight cancer

Dozens came out to support a Michiana family as their 9-month-old baby girl continues to fight cancer.

The Haystack Supper and Fun Day Benefit for Lucca Miller took place at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Goshen.

There was a bake sale, a haystack dinner, carnival games, a bounce house, a fire truck, a live band and more.

Lucca was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma on November 16th.

Since she was diagnosed, her mom says that she has had six rounds of chemotherapy, three surgeries, one of which was able to get her tumor out.

Lucca is scheduled to have a stem cell transplant and radiation which will take place at a children's hospital in Chicago.
“It will be a constant struggle. I mean, with, when having a stem cell transplant your immune system is completely depleted and so that's why we have to remain in the hospital for such a long period of time,” says Lucca’s mom, Mary Catherine Miller, “I am lucky that I have my child, but there are so many people who aren’t and as much money as can be raised for the people who are doing the research because there are so many smart doctors out there who everyday find new things, and if we can help support them then, you know, other people might not have to lose their children”.

Mary says that they are just taking things one day at a time. Her husband is with Lucca right now in Chicago. She says that they take turns being at the hospital with her. She says she is just extremely humbled and touched that so many people came out to support her and her family.

If you would like to help out the Miller family, donations may be deposited to the Lucca Miller Benefit Fund at any Interra Credit Union Office.
