Michiana high school band among 12 in nation to perform at prestigious festival

MISHAWAKA A Michiana high school is among only 12 in the nation to be selected for a prestigious jazz festival in March.

The Penn High School Advanced Jazz Ensemble is going to Savannah, Georgia to compete for a top honor. The festival is invite-only, so the only fees associated are the travel costs. The band needs to raise $15,000 for a bus and hotel stay in downtown Savannah.

The jazz band is made up of 22 sophomores-seniors from Penn High School. The group plays professional literature, and learns through a curricular course that meets twice a week.

The group is asking the public for help. They are fundraising through March. The first way to get involved is Jazz a'la Mode on Friday, February 7. The event takes place in the school cafeteria at 7 p.m.
