Four-thousand children from low-income families will have a chance to go to preschool next year, with the state footing the bill.

Unfortunately none of them will be from our area.

Gov. Mike Pence announced the five counties that will be included in the preschool pilot program.

They are Allen, Jackson, Lake, Marion and Vanderburgh.

The preschool pilot program is meant to help children from low-income families get ready for kindergarten.

It will launch early next year.

A few local counties were named finalists for the program, but they did not win the bid.
