KOSCIUSKO COUNTY There was a scary situation Saturday for a Syracuse police officer, which could have been a lot worse than it was.
The Stacey Page Online reports that a meth lab exploded in the officer's hand.
He had just transferred a suspect to the prison on a battery charge. The suspect left a bag in the back seat of the squad car.
The officer was outside of the car when chemical smoke began to fill the vehicle. He opened the door to remove the bag, and it burst into flames in his hand.
The officer was treated and released for inhalation of the gas.
