Memorial Hospital opens hybrid rooms

Mishawaka, Ind. You could call it a one stop shop in high tech hospital surgery and scans.

This afternoon, Memorial Hospital held an open house to celebrate the opening of their two new hybrid operating rooms.

A hybrid room will allow patients to undergo more than one procedure in the same room without having to move to different areas of the hospital.

It's easier on the patients who may be in severe pain, reduces the risk of infection, and hopefully shortens the hospital stay.

"A number of specialists can work in one room on one patient giving them the best care possible," said Jane Mitton, Director of Surgical Services at Memorial. "We do it some of that now but this has given us the ability to do it totally high tech and the best equipment around."

Memorial is the first hospital in the area to open the hybrid rooms.

The two rooms will officially open on July 29.
