Meet Mr. Weeber, a dog that's helping kids in the courtroom

Berrien County, Mich. Meet Mr. Weeber – he’s a 1 ½ year old black lab at the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office who will be a companion to children at the courthouse.

Mr. Weeber is part of Michigan’s Canine Advocacy Program, which uses dogs to help calm kids who are involved in the criminal justice system. The dogs in this program are specially trained for this task. He is used when kids need to visit the prosecutor’s office for interviews or testify in court.

Mr. Weeber is owned and will be cared for by Asst. Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Taylor and his family in St. Joseph. Officials say there is no expense to Berrien County for the use of the dog.

Mr. Weeber will be introduced to the Berrien County Board of Commissioners at Thursday morning’s meeting.
