GOSHEN, Ind. Goshen firefighters responded shortly after noon to a call of a blue two-door Scion that had caught fire in the Linway Plaza parking lot.
While working to extinguish the flames, firefighters found a man in the back of the vehicle. That man has been identified as William J. Tully.
Witnesses in the parking lot heard an explosion and ran over to the car to see if there was anyone inside. Drew Perkins said he saw no one in the driver's seat or passenger seat, but tinted window prevented him from getting a view into the back.
Another man ran up to the car with a fire extinguisher but Perkins said the flames were too strong for them to get close enough to help.
Firefighters arrived and extinguished the flames with fire hoses. As they began to break in the cars windows to let the smoke out they located Tully in the backseat and made quick work to get him out.
Once Tully had been pulled from the car MedFlight was called to take him to a hospital in Fort Wayne.
Authorities say he sustained burns, but the severity of those injuries is unknown.
