South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg is getting down and dirty to learn how the city works.
He has already visited several city departments, but Wednesday he spent the day getting to know more about the essential community function of trash pickup.
The mayor joined the crew to collect residential trash, and to understand the basic functions of the cleanup equipment.
Andre Price, Manager of Operation South Bend Solid Waste says this will the mayor a better idea about what everyone does, “I mean he's one of those "hands-on" mayors that likes to see what everybody goes through. So our guys have been waiting for him to come down here and see what they do. I mean we have one of the hardest working departments in the city, so we like to prove that.”
