The Marshall County Jail is strapped for cash and asking for more tax-payer dollars.

According to reporting partners at the Plymouth Pilot, Marshall County Sheriff Tom Chamberlin asked for an extra $36,215 to cover the rising cost of prisoner meals and supplies, as well as vehicle maintenance and fuel for the Sheriff's Department.

The jail has already been charging prisoners $2.50 for extra meals throughout the day to bring in more cash, but Sheriff Chamberlin says it's not enough to keep up with an influx of prisoners from methamphetamine and robbery arrests.
