Dozens of folks in Mishawaka started off their day covered in mud, dirt and slime, but it was all for a good cause.

The ninth annual Marine Mud Run kicked off bright and early Saturday morning at its new, permanent course near Marian High School which debuted last year.

All of the proceeds from the event help area children in the Toys for Tots program.

There was even more mud and ditches this time around, and a brand new obstacle swing to encounter.

But by the end, some participants were ready for life in the Marines.

“It wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be,” said participant Audrey Delano. “The running was hard, but the obstacles weren't as hard as I was expecting them to be.”

However, not everyone felt that way.

“It was hard because you had to pull yourself up and go through it and then get on the other side,” said fellow participant Paige Sizemore.
Organizers hoped to raise more than $30,000 this year.
