The ability to set himself up both on and off the basketball court was just too good of an opportunity to pass up for Marian standout Devin Cannady.
The senior bypassed the chance at multiple Division I athletic scholarship offers to play basketball in the Ivy League at Princeton.
"I could have taken the easy route into a school that offers full athletic scholarships but now I have to study for the SAT and ACT, keep my grades up and just be committed to the process and know the road less traveled is a challenging task but just the type of person I am, I'm up for that challenge and willing to accept it," Cannady said.
Cannady is also Marian's starting quarterback. His decision comes just in time for the start of football season as Marian begins the 2014 season on Friday. He says it was a goal to the have the decision before the season began.
"Just having that relief off my shoulders, off my back and be able to just enjoy my time playing football and getting ready for basketball season in the winter," Cannady says.
Cannady will join Robert Mischler (Cornell) and Demetrius Jackson (Notre Dame) as Marian products play Division I basketball with all three coming at outstanding athletic institutions.
"I'm very happy for him--real proud of him," Marian football coach and athletic director Reggie Glon says. "Any young man that can get into Princeton, go to Princeton and graduate there has a pretty good ticket for the rest of their life."
